It’s your last chance to CHAT with particle physicists this term. The CHAT page is open between 8–9pm.
“I’m interested to hear the routes you each took into your current career? My pupils definitely don’t appreciate the wide range of opportunities that studying sciences can provide”
Teacher in last week’s session
Invite your colleagues along as well. Whether you’ve got ten minutes or the whole hour free, pop in for a chat with five researchers doing fascinating physics:
Susan Cartwright
Neutrino researcherOne exciting thing that has happened fairly recently is the detection of very high energy neutrinos from an active galaxy. This should help us to answer a question that has been puzzling particle physicists and astrophysicists for nearly a century: what is the origin of cosmic rays?
Anne Green
Dark matter researcherOne of the hottest topics in cosmology at the moment is measuring the expansion speed of the Universe. There are 2 ways of doing this and they give different answers. And at the moment we don’t know whether there’s a mistake in one of the methods, or whether this is telling us something new and exciting about the Universe…
Also online tonight: Savannah, Lucy, and Scott
Log in to the CHAT using your I’m a Scientist account. Your colleagues new to the site can use their social media account to get started.
Next CHAT: Genetics, Tuesday 3rd December, 8-9pm
Talk about genetics, genomes and DNA with scientists like:
Fern Johnson
Clinical Scientist in Bioinformatics
It’s not ready just yet, but I’m very excited about whole genomic sequencing coming into use in the clinic. Ultimately this will give more patients an answer or the cause of their condition…

ASK Section: Get answers to your questions any time
Can’t make this week’s CHAT? Use the ASK section to post questions to specific scientists at any time over the school year.
Feel free to ask about whatever you like, whenever you like.
